Dororo (2019)

Born to a greedy samurai lord who bartered his newborn son's organs to forty-eight demons in exchange for power, Hyakkimaru is left a limbless, senseless husk of a child. Miraculously saved and given prosthetics by a compassionate medicine man, Hyakkimaru embarks on a quest to reclaim his body piece by piece by defeating the very demons that hold parts of him. Alongside him is Dororo, an orphaned thief who aspires to be the world’s greatest warrior. Together they traverse war-torn landscapes and face monstrous foes, both human and supernatural. As Hyakkimaru recovers each stolen fragment of himself, he uncovers dark truths about his father and the cost of ambition while forging an unbreakable bond with young Dororo. Why It's Similar: Dororo and Hell's Paradise share stories of protagonists battling demonic entities in historical Japanese settings. Hyakkimaru, on a quest to reclaim his body parts from demons, parallels Gabimaru's struggle against the supernatural creatures of the island. Both anime feature lots of swordplay and dark fantasy elements, with characters facing moral dilemmas and the harsh realities of their unforgiving worlds.
