County Jail once housed Sean Penn at the same time as serial killer Robert Ramirez, and Sean "Diddy" Combs has seen multiple famous inmates come and go during his time in prison. Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, Billy McFarland, And Michael Cohen

Former MTV reality star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino was released in September 2026 after serving eight months in prison for tax offenses. Sorrentino had some famous neighbors inside the Otisville Correctional Facility in New York, including Billy McFarland and Michael Cohen. McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison for defrauding millions of dollars from investors and ticket sales for the infamous Fyre Festival in 2017. Cohen, a former lawyer for Donald Trump, began his three-year sentence for tax evasion, campaign finance violations, and lying to Congress during Sorrentino's stay. Sorrentino reportedly did not interact much with either famous inmate, saying in a post-prison interview that McFarland was "very quiet" and "reserved" while describing Cohen as "a bit nervous." The former The Jersey Shore star also claimed that he asked Cohen to smuggle him his chicken to help fuel Sorrentino's twice-daily workouts, and although Cohen agreed, he was unable to sneak the extra food past the guards.

Legendary rap artist Jeffrey "Ja Rule" Atkins was sentenced to two years in prison for failing to pay federal taxes in 2011. He served his sentence alongside former New York state comptroller Alan G. Hevesi, who was sentenced to one to four years in prison for a massive corruption scheme involving the New York state pension fund. When Ja Rule was released in 2013, he explained he and Hevesi had formed a friendship during their time inside: Me and Alan, he's a Knicks fan like me, so we watched a lot of Knicks together, never missed a game. We talked politics. The election was going on while I was locked up, Obama and Romney, so we would talk a lot about that.

    Richard Ramirez And Sean Penn

Actor Sean Penn served half of a 60-day sentence at the Los Angeles County Jail for reckless driving and assault of a movie extra which violated a previous parole. Although he was released for good behavior, while in prison, Penn was housed in a nearby cell to infamous serial killer Richard Ramirez. That's when a guard reportedly "played cupid" between the two. While awaiting transfer to San Quentin State Prison, Ramirez requested an autograph from the famous actor, and the guard allowed communication between the pair. He wrote me [a letter]... I get this thing from him and it says, "Hey Sean, stay tough, hit them again - Richard Ramirez, 666 with a pentagram and a rendition of the devil." Penn reportedly wrote back that he felt no kinship to Ramirez despite being in prison together and he hoped gas descended upon him before sanity did.

For a time Timothy McVeigh, Ted Kaczynski, and Ramzi Yousef all served time together in a Supermax prison in Colorado. The three inmates on "Bomber's Row" shared not only an address but history of explosive crimes. McVeigh orchestrated the Oklahoma City Bombing which killed 168 people and earned him a ticket to Death Row. Ramzi Yousef was responsible for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Ted Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber, orchestrated a seven state bombing spree that resulted in him serving four consecutive life sentences.
