Pro-Palestinian celebrities range from longtime activists to musicians to younger stars. All have been criticized for their stances, and have been called everything from ignorant to antisemitic. Nevertheless, celebrities for Palestine have called for boycotts of artistic and scientific gatherings, and divestment from Israeli businesses. Social media spats and press feuds between anti- and pro-Israel celebrities are quite common. Many of the most prominent celebrity Palestine supporters have had public arguments, written open letters addressed to other celebrities, and even traded insults. Some have even retracted their support based on the backlash they've faced; however, people don't forget. Here are a number of prominent pro-Palestine celebrities.

    Jennifer Lawrence

In September 2025, Jennifer Lawrence joined the conversation surrounding Palestine with some strong words about the ongoing conflict during the San Sebastian Film Festival press conference. During the press event, she called the situation "no less than a genocide" and shared her fears about the future for children not just in Palestine, but worldwide. While she acknowledges that celebrities aren't the ones to solve these crises, she emphasizes the need for political accountability and responsible voting, stating, “And everybody needs to remember that when you ignore what’s happening on one side of the world, it won’t be long until it’s on your side as well.”

    Susan Sarandon

The actress and political activist has appeared at pro-Palestine rallies around New York City. She made a speech at the Millions March for Palestine in March 2024, saying: Our enemy is greed, and our enemy is silence. The silence of those who look away when you see crushed children, starving babies, wailing mothers, fathers digging through the rubble to try to find their families… this is unacceptable! Sarandon was dropped from her talent agency in November 2023 over statements made at another rally that were deemed antisemitic by critics. She later apologized for her comments in an Instagram post, calling them a “terrible mistake.”

    Jon Stewart

The former Daily Show host came down on the side of Palestine in the bulk of his coverage of various events there, particularly the Israeli military action in 2009. He joked that the only thing both American political parties agreed on was supporting Israel bombing Gaza, and later asked Hillary Clinton: "Can we at least agree the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is overwhelming and that the world must do more for that people who are trapped by this conflict?" In 2024, he criticized the US response to the Israeli-Hamas conflict in his guest-host spot on The Daily Show: Why do we tiptoe around on eggshells?… The verbal gymnastics that the American government must undertake so as not to offend the delicate sensibilities of a country we provide most of the weapons for is… yarghhhhh! He later added, “The subtext of all this is America knows this is wrong.”

    Stephen Hawking

In 2013, the renowned physicist withdrew from a conference in Israel at the request of Palestinian professors. Cambridge University, where Hawking has been a researcher for 40 years, initially claimed Hawking was missing the conference for medical reasons, then revealed the truth as to why Hawking wasn't going. According to The Guardian, Hawking wrote in a letter to conference organizers: I accepted the invitation to the Presidential Conference with the intention that this would not only allow me to express my opinion on the prospects for a peace settlement but also because it would allow me to lecture on the West Bank. However, I have received a number of emails from Palestinian academics. They are unanimous that I should respect the boycott [of Israel]. In view of this, I must withdraw from the conference. Had I attended, I would have stated my opinion that the policy of the present Israeli government is likely to lead to disaster.
